what does everyone else grow in the spaces between and around compost bins, carrot bins raised beds coldframes etc although I have tried to squash them all  in there still seems to be an aw full lot of soil around them.  What can I grow here or do with the spaces. I suppose really to keep it tidy. :-\

I've got poached egg plants, poppies and other 'bee-loving' plants going riot around those 'waste' bits of land..majority now self seed themselved now and there is hardly any weeding to do other than pulling some up if/when things go bit over the top..

Mint, chives, comfrey. and daffs..

Comfrey and I'll plant squiash/pumpkins on the compost heaps maybe sunflowers next to them too.... the chickens next door can have the seeds....

Yes I plant squash around my compost bin, I think it gets extra goodness from that rich soil. I usually make a pile of manure and soil against the walls of the compost bin and plant straight into it. They love it, I always get good squash like that. Oh yes and flowers too, sow a few marigolds.

Aren't you all so efficient - despite resolutions to grow marigolds and nasturtiums, I usually end up with nettles and dandelions... :-[

small..not so efficient...I don't have time to weed everywhere and there is plenty of weeds to deal with anyway..so if I can save a bit of work by letting nature take over in tidier manner..that will do nicely ;) Beside...having plenty of self seeded flowers will provide plenty of bees..and plenty of fruit..
Dandelions and nettles are good..as long as your make good use out of them ;)Then they are not weeds..
Nettles in omelette..yum..dandelion beer/wine.. ;D etc,,etc..

Oh Lord yes, the marigolds are all self seeded! Grow them once and you have friends for life. Nasturtiums seem more capricious but the seeds are cheap and a quick sow in late April always gives a few cascades of them.
You don't think I am THAT organised??

Although - this year I bought some "meadow flower" mixes from Lidl and I am going to put them in a few unused edges etc, hopefully it will attract insects.

So far I've been growing weeds there. Marigolds sound a good idea.

Thank you all for your replies, glad I am not the only one that thinks the more  you grow the less weeds, in spaces like that.  :D

Yup, thats the plan for me too after reading these posts - why weed when you can

throw some seed down into awkward little spaces  ;D
