Eat your greens

I had a really lovely time on the allotment yesterday. We all went down there (OH, 2 yr old and 4 yr old) and I thought - the kids will get cold and moany and that will be the end of it. Well, I was so wrong. The kids had really missed the plot (haven't been down as a family for ages) and they just played and played and laughed and laughed - it was such a joy to see and hear them. An me and OH were able to dig and dig. They flagged a bit - so we got out the picnic and after that they were back on their feet laughing and playing again. They both had two helpings of brussel sprout tops with their dinner and I truly believe that was because they had made some sort of connection with the soil and plants during the day.

That is wonderful Sarah. It is great on so many different levels, not just the healthy fresh air, exercise  and fun for them, but It is marvelous  that they can experience the delights of growing and eating healthy veggies and appreciating where they came from.  That is what you would want for every child. Well done you, for giving that to them.

Also at the lottie yesterday - first time back this year.  The weather was almost spring like with the birds twitterng in the trees nearby.  Husband and I achieved quite a lot, and came home feeling  achey but very happy. Aren't allotments great!  ;D busy_lizzie

What a lovely day for you and your family Sarah-b  :) Your kids will grow up knowing where their food comes from - not on plastic trays from the supermarket!

I too got to the lottie yesterday, and my legs ache today, mostly from sifting through soil getting couch roots out. I also planted 2 more rows of garlic and a row of shallots. Around half of bed 2 (allium bed) now looks lovely and raked and plantable, ready for the rest of the shallots and onions in March  ;D
