Looking after inherited rhubarb

Hi all,

We've inherited some rhubard in our new allotment and a few of the shoots seem to have started to emerge from the soil.  The bed is pretty weedy and there's a small row of last years leeks next to them.  Whats the best thing to do to keep them happy? A very cautious weeding and a mulching of compost?

Both of which are very sensible... the rhubarb will look after itself but a top dressing of compost is fine... the small leeks should be eaten...  ;D

If you want to tidy up the area you  can see if anybody on your site would like to grow rhubarb this time of year you can give a few crowns away they would be very gratefull and like saddad said a topping of compost will give it a treat

They like organic matter, so pile it on as much as you can.

Rhubarb is a gross feeder and will thrive on any manure (eg. horse) or compost you give it.
