I picked up from the local garden centre and started a yellow oyster mushroom kit on December 28th. This is the kit from Taylors if anyone is interested:

There have been......developments.......  This was Wednesday....

Well that was quick!

and this is today....

Shouldn't be too long before I'm tucking in!

How did you do it.  I've never got more than ONE mushroom from a kit or from fresh mushroon spawn

Vinlander

Yes, they are really good delicacy (much better than the grey oysters) - I always used to buy them whenever they appeared in the supermarket but I haven't seen any for years...

When did you buy the kit? I always think kit freshness is the number 1 problem when you buy them and they don't work...

The pink ones are also a bit better than the grey ones.

The only other one I would like to try as a kit is the wood blewit because it's the only other one that actually tastes better than a (relatively ordinary) chestnut mushroom.

Good luck and keep us posted on the flavour.

Cheers.
With a microholding you always get too much or bugger-all. (I'm fed up calling it an allotment garden - it just encourages the tidy-police).

The simple/complex split is more & more important: Simple fertilisers Poor, complex ones Good. Simple (old) poisons predictable, others (new) the opposite.

Thanks all - I didn't do anything beyond following the instructions and as others have noted I suspect kit freshness is vital. What I did do was check the inside of the pack (possible because of how it was wrapped) before purchasing and noticed the content was white over which I took to mean the mycelium was strong and healthy.

Irritatingly its looking a bit crook this morning and growth appears to have slowed. Think I may have let it get a bit warm whilst the heating was on in the day yesterday.

I was given some mushroom 'logs' for christmas. They are supposed to be left outside to do their stuff, but as yet, they still just look like two short logs. Good job I'm an eternal optimist.  :D

a top tip from me. If you own an adorable but mischevious ginger kitten there is a chance it will somehow open the door to the room in which your mushroom kit is growing and then eat each and every sign of mushroom growth off the top of the kit nothwithstanding the bowls of catfood elsewhere....  ::) :'(

Oh no! What a shame - I was looking forward to seeing the harvested crop, too.....maybe there will be another crop later?

Did you manage to get a crop? That is, one that wasn't eaten by a kitten!

These look brilliant, never tried to grow them but will now..

 ;D

Unfortunately one of them got a bit damaged.

I wonder how that could have happened?

I let him have that one. The rest however.....

Thats different. We tried to grow ordinary mushrooms quite a few years ago but they all got the fly in them
When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

thanks for the update! I'm salivating looking at them. Oh and loved the photo of your cat and the shrooms  ;D
