Parsnips - variety with a small core?

Some of my parsnips have quite a lot of woody core which we cut out prior to cooking - does anyone have a tip for a variety that has a small core to avoid wastage or are they all similar? I'm not sure what variety I'm growing at the moment.

All the varieties I've grown always have the core, I think letting them grow large is the main cause, maybe try using them when they are supermarket size.

The newer F1 varieties are less prone to making a core, but are just smaller to my mind... eg gladiator or bayonette... I just cut round any that get woody and use the shoulders...  :)

I have been growing Excaliber F1 for a few years now they are good no canker as yet but i tend to pick them small, Then the one that are left in garden  i think they are all from out of space all shapes huge JCB to get them out of the ground (ha) BEST OF LUCK   Rugbypost
