Polytunnels

Hi

Do you all separate your cucumbers, aubergines peppers and chillies from your tomatoes.

My polytunnel gets more sunlight than my small greenhouse and because of this I have been growing them all together - not very successfully in face tomatoes got blight (got some off this year, Aubergine went moldy, cucumber gave me one small cucumber and the peppers and chillis also said get lost!

Is this because they are all in the same tunnel or is it because I stay in Scotland and don't stand a chance anyway lol!

Hiya, jazzie, we grow everything together in our tunnel, they are in groups, 30x10 poly..our cucumber was very slow last year as were the peppers, I think it was mainly down to the weather, one of our toms got blight but I had watered with rain water on to the leaves  ::)

I haven't tried grouping them.  I will try this this year and see what happens.  I sprayed with bordeaux mix this year and managed to just keep the blight manageable, I think it is lack of ventilation even though I have two doors open in the height of the scottish sunshine ha!

Mould and blight, as you mention sounds like lack of ventilation.

Before I bought my polytunnel in October I looked for solutions to that problem and hopefully the side vents on my tunnel from First Tunnels will prove a good investment.

The photo shows the tunnel just after construction with the roller blind halfway down.

There are blinds that roll up on both sides to provide insect proof ventilation as well as doors at each end.

I don't think it can be to do with grouping them together.  I grow all four in my greenhouse with basil and marigolds, the tomatoes and cucumbers usually crop really well, the aubergines and peppers more dependent on the type of summer.  I do have lots of ventilation; automatic roof vents, a louvre window at one end and door at the other.
