Jim,
I heard that SKPE has a problem at the moment and it maybe worth waiting for a bit.
We have it on our PC and the Son has it too. It was him that told us that Skpe was down and to wait a while for them to sort it out before continuing to use it.

Have to let us know how you get on setting this up jim. Going to look into it to talk to both sets of parents so they can see the little un on a more regular basis & he gets familiar with their faces & voices since neither of them live close enough to see every week.

Since my mum often has trouble using her landline and my live in IT professional often cocks things up in a major manner, I'm approaching this with trepidation!!

Jim,
Seems like Skype has resolved its problems over Christmas and is working fine now.
Use the link Barriedalenick offered up and follow the instructions which is the same for most pc's. Mac maybe different as I do not have one.

Our son and his wife have recently gone to live in Sweden.  Skype is wonderful for keeping in touch with each other-I was actually able to witness my son's arrival at their home (she had gone ahead of him) which was so exciting.  He's writing a novel, and we discuss the editing on Skype.  They recently acquired a cat, and I was able to "meet" him face to face(almost!)..and it's free, saving lots on the 'phone bill-it's sometimes a bit jumpy and the sound can come and go, but in general I think it works very well.

got the webcam from argos, fixed it up and made my first skype talk to a fellow gardener, its the best thing since sliced bread!!

My life would be very miserable without skype.  Eldest daughter is in Australia with her husband and my only grandchild.  (number 2 on the way)  I would only get to see my grandson once a year when we go over if not for skype.  Now I can see him each week and he can see me!  I also chat to my younger sis who lives in Calgary Alberta.  Saves a fortune and you get a face to face chat.  Its wonderful...........I love technology.
