My new blueberry shrubs have arrived today in excellent condition. My plan is to plant them in containers in ericaceous compost. Should I plant them  and keep them in my unheated greenhouse? Should I plant them and put them out on the allotment now? Any advice I would be grateful for?

I would plant them on and leave outside. Even in cold GH they might get confuced and start bringing leaves out too early. They are really really hardy and will take the cold..unless they are not starting their season too early.
So I would rather treat them hard and let them decide when is right time to start growth.

I agree with Goodlife. If you bring them on early they'll need to stay in the greenhouse til summer, which you probably don't want. The flowers are just about to come out on mine as it is and I'm really hoping they can hold back a while.

I received my new blackberrry, loganberry and tayberry yesterday and the instructions were to plant if at all possible or leave in a shelterd place. You won't be doing the plant any favours if you put them in the greenhouse. Their words not mine. ;D
When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

Blueberries are not totally hardy in prolonged sub zero weather. I lost two in pots last year. I would temporarily plant in pots and protect the pots with lots of bubble wrap and then stand them by a wall

It might to due to being in pots..as its not 'natural' envinronment for them..or perharp the pots wasn't that large and they froze solid? Frozen soil can shrink from the pots and expose the roots to bare air...
Blueberries in their native countries..North America and Canada get even colder and rougher weather than what UK weather throws us. Even places like Finland people plant them straight into ground and they are fine..weather there can easily get -20'C.. ::)
