My fig tree has gone mad and is producing more figs than it ever has before. In two days I've picked about 40, and that's just the ones I can reach.

Wow, that's a nice haul.  What is it, brown turkey?  Do you pick off all the tiny ones at the start of the year?

No, it's not brown turkey.  It is grown from a cutting off my brother in law's tree, which he had as a cutting....etc....   etc. and nobody knew the variety. My family is from Sicily so maybe the original was from there.

I only remove the tiny figs that are dead-looking.

I don't know why it's done so well this year, the only thing I did differently was to mulch very heavily with straw earlier in the year.

It's a massive tree.  When I planted it about  7 or 8 years ago I didn't know about restricting the roots.  :o

Have you got one Simon?

It's planted directly into the ground with no restriction at all.  The tree is MASSIVE!

I'm very envious. I have two large brown turkeys growing in the ground that usually produce lots of ripe figs by August, but this year they are stubbornly green in spite of the hot July (East Sussex).

No.  I've thought about it, and I'm thinking about it again now.
