If I even hint at growing more than 4 courgette plants next year, will someone please remind me of this -

[attachment=1]

I didn't have time to pick any for the last 5 days because I was busy with the Summer Fayre.  I had to force myself to go and pick them today because I was dreading what I would find.  :o

ill remind you betty, whether you take any notice of course is a different matter!  ;D
i did four this yaer, far too many for just us two...the vandals that were in recently must have thought so too,cos they ripped out one plant!
when the going gets tough, the tough go digging

I'm going to have to decide which one to leave out next year. I'm growing one each of Parthenon, Cavili and Rugoso Friulana and am swamped! I give them to neighbours all the time, but even they are beginning to say 'no thanks'! Trouble is - I like the different colours and textures of all three.

These will make 5 or 6 delicious courgette chocolate cakes to be put in the freezer and brought out when needed.  No need to panic.

If there are any left over, slice and stirfry in olive oil, finely sliced onion and garlic and freeze.  Winter will be coming.

If there are any left over, courgettes can be sliced and pickled like cucumber or made into relish and preserves jars last for years.

If there are still any left over, I'm sure somebody else will have half a dozen very good ideas.

Did I say - Don't Panic?     ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!
;D

Please try my chocolate courgette cake, i even used my crook necked summer squash and it worked out lovely.

The recipe is in the recipe section and is dead easy  ;)

I think I need help as well Betty. Though as I explained to OH when he asked why we had as many plants as we do (only 6 this year) sometimes they don't all thrive so you have to make sure you've got enough....... ;D

P.S. Also sometimes someone recommends a variety (thinks: white volunteer) that you just HAVE to try....nice to see some in your picture.

Digeroo

I have several lungo bianco plants.  They are going into overdrive at the moment. I know a nice friendly pig who loves them.   But lovely courgettes prefer them to white volunteer.

But thankyou for reminding me I have not picked them for days :o :o  May need a forklift.

Which variety are they Betty. They look a bit curly
When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

The lumpy curly ones are Rugosa Friulana and they are lovely - but not in industrial quantities!

Thanks for the replies  :)

I just about managed to fit them in my car to bring them home (not much space because of two dog crates and a resident scarecrow in my (ACE's favourite) Micra.

They are now in two containers in the hall but I haven't got the energy tonight to do anything with them.

Chocolate cake is a brilliant suggestion and I will be making some tomorrow afternoon.  Then I've got to try to make a bit more room in the freezer because it's full of........guess what........flippin' courgettes!!

That sort of yield looks perfectly normal to me! I've only got 8 this year (plus a couple of patty pan)!

I do like the look of your Rugosa Friulana - I might have to grow a couple of those as well next year.

Our "to-be-dealt-withs" are in  couple of washing-up bowls in the spare room.

My rugosa's are coming on stream too... as well as fourteen courgette plants I have three rugosa, three summer crookneck and a pair of Yugoslav White Finger..... I'm expecting when I get back from the next festival that my allotment and garden whill have disappeared under the crops...... Thankfully on the plot wherer the rugosa are I can normally find someone fascinated by the look of the rugosa and off them easily enough......

Now I'm jealous  ;D  it was one I wanted but slipped me by this year.  Hope you'll give a taste report, though they've got such comic form probably worth growing just for that

(I'm sure you'll need one of those next year too Squash64  ;) )

They're OK, though better if eaten fairly small, when they're jsut a white pattypan really..... I'll try and let one grow out and see what it's like when it's bigger.....

Hi my name is Aqui and I am a courgette-plan-aholic!

(and I've only got 5 plants!)
gone to pot :D

And I think the rugosa friulana are my fault Betty, sorry  ;D !

But they're tasty though. You can also grate them and when cooked they break down to a sauce or grate into omelette. Gets rid of loads that way!
