Hi, I don't know how to feel about this except it has upset me very much and I don't know what to do.to save me rewriting it all would you please read my post marked Geocache to see what it all about.

I would appreciate your advice.

To say I am upset is an understatement

I have come home here to feel better

Why don't you do as one suggested and put a sign up saying the cache was removed permanently because it was disrupting the garden.  Then forget any unkind words you've read. People will say the most inappropriate things on the internet becausw they can get away with it and sometimes we must just ignore and forget and move on.  You are certainly no troll as anyone on this site would attest, Jeanniine.  Have a good sleep and sweet dreams.

Thanks sweetie, are you just off to bed. I think you are halfway between the UK and me, it is still only 7pm here, this time stuff is getting me all confused.

It is a really odd feeling to read all that stuff there then come home though. I think I will be extra kind to meanies in the future and why on earth I let it upset me heaven only knows

I know why I feel at home here though,, it gets scary when you step out there

Your strength is your sensitivity to others.  And your weakness. ;D Isn't it funny how that works with our personalities?!  Maybe most women are that way, do you think?

Yes <yawn> time to call it a day. Have misspelled enough words for one day!

Jeannine,

I am a geocacher that has read the thread over on geocaching.com's forums. I want to apologize for the treatment you got over there. One thing you need to realize is our hobby gets a wide variety of people involved and most of them do not participate ion the forums. For the most part geocachers are very friendly and very concerned with the world around them. The majority of us would not do anything to cause damage. However you do get a small amount that doesn't think. As for the forums, my observation is that a few people like to get on there and cause trouble. This gets some of the regulars a little gun shy and they look for "trolls" and "sock puppets" in any and all new threads that stir any kind of controversy. And most of the time they are correct. Just recently a poster by the name of Ashnikes kept starting threads to stir things up and got him\herself banned. He\she started a new account yesterday  to "apologize"  then proceeded to start more posts to stir it up again and got banned. You just happened to come in at a sensitive time. Please do not paint us all with the same brush. And I know some of those same people calling you out, in their own communities would go out of their way to help. Many will online once they are convinced they are not being pulled into a hoax.

I would take their advice and put up a sign. Most cachers would be horrified to know they were in an area where they weren't welcome. Also if you have not contacted the owner would you want me to contact them for you? If they do not respond or you want it taken off the site quicker I could contact the reviewer. This is the person who attempts to make sure the caches meet all of the guidelines before they are post for all to see. They are usually quick to take care of issues once they are made aware of them. But again, put up a sign. Even after a cache is archived (set so that it does not show up in searches) people may have old data in their GPSrs.

I'd like to apologize on behalf of the Geocaching community, this was a case of some itchy-trigger-fingered-regulars making assumptions and mistaking your identity. They have all been corrected at length, and hopefully they will learn something from their very rude mistake. I guess some of them have been suckered a LOT lately by one trouble maker returning repeatedly (always under new names).

Hi, Jeannine!

My family and I are geocachers and I ran across your thread on the geocaching site. It is truly disheartening that your first experience with geocaching has been this dismal. I have not been in the forum much lately, so I have missed the circus that evidently has everyone on edge. Whatever it was though, it does not excuse the distrust on your thread. However, the the suggestions given were good ones - especially about the sigh - and I hope your garden is able to produce a good amount of squash for you this season.

Best wishes,
Laura

Jeannine you are the last person in the world who deserves to be called a troll.

These people are being very silly and hopefully the sensible geocachers will sort thm out.

Good luck with the squash :)
A space? I need more plants......more plants? I need some space!!!!

ACE

Wow! I am amazed, you have always come across as such  a nice person even when your back is up.

I hope you get it sorted soon. I had better not go on there, I would soon be in trouble. ;)

Jeannine

I think it is all sorted, all seem to agree I am not the person in question and have apologised, but I have to say it was pretty rough, I didn't think I had that many tears :(

I am OK today though.

I will say this, being accused a troll with all the stuff that ensued made me think very seriously about any of us who suspect anyone that comes on here. We have to be very very careful.

Thank you for all the sweet comments, wow and one from Ace, you know I think that is probably the first time I have sensed you being serious.. go on tease me now.

You have no idea what coming home feels like.

It's a jungle out there as Monk says.

You mean like this

QuoteSounds like a trol to me

anf this

QuoteCertainly a US troll from the spelling of "Neighbor".

Being careful means accepting that some peopl have different opinions to the groupthink that exists here and not throwing the word troll around just becuase of disagreeing with what they say or how they say it. Not aimed at you Jeannine, just following on from your point which is wellmade.

Jeannine

Yes exactly like that, wether in fun as I said in my other post that I have done or maliciously it was not good to be on the receiving end of it. I am told that trolls like the teasing and meaness though as that is what they feed on but it has taught me a big lesson, and we nevr know for sure.

Thank you for pointing out my comment

Sorry my post isnt clear. You didnt write those things I quoted Jeannine but they have been aimed at me on this forum.

Mrs Gumboot

Haven't read the post concerned Jeannine, but one thing I've run across on other forums is that it can be far too easy to type things that people almost certainly wouldn't be rude enough to say to your face. My husband used to run a forum which he eventually passed on because of the trouble caused by two or three people, at least one of whom we had met face to face and thought was a nice chap. They seemed to think they were being 'playful'.

Freedom and anonymity on the internet is a good thing, but it can encourage people to assume they have free reign to throw around whatever personal comments they like, regardless of whether the people they are aimed at have done anything to deserve it.

Hope you're not too upset by it now.

Where's the huggy icon when you need it  :-*

EDIT: having read your original post, I see you became an unfortunate victim of circumstance and upset which was nothing to do with you, although it's still horrible. Perhaps some of the above is a little harsh on those on the other side of the fence. Must learn to start at the bottom on the forum not the top.

It can be remarkably similar to the way people treat each other when they are on the road, inside the little protection bubble of their own car. They do things that they would NEVER do in line at the grocery store.
