Hello all, noobie lurker lottie girl here.

Interested to hear what the Vets have to say about this.

I was thinking about this pack from Suttons - 36 plug plants for 9.99 + P&P though they don't send it til end August (time to collect materials for a BIG cage methinks):

I have - for once - actually got round to planting seeds again now!!  Normally I only "do spring seeds"  Anyway I have put masses of seeds in some are salads some spinach and winter radish and I can't remember them all!!  Loads of them!
I put turnips more beetroot - will when I can find them put carrots in, swedes and loads!

Having just had loads of rain and now sun and the odd drip of rain - I am expecting great things!

Presumably Denby Visitor are Vets veterans?  In which case probably me!

I - personally - would not buy a selection of plugs like that as I think they are expensive - but then I am comparing them to seed prices and how many seeds you can get out of a single packet.  It would be disastrous if the slugs ate some of them tho!!

I've just sown some more salads...short carrots and peas....swede, turnips, kohl rabi..radishes...so plenty of time for some late crops..I'm sure you could get some drawf beans to crop some too before the frost get them..but only for eating purposes..for seed saving It will be a bit late now..

I have sown spinach, chard, kale, spring onions, radish, carrots, peas, dwarf french beans, oriental greens, lettuce and turnips.  I find things are less likely to bolt at this time of year.  I may even sow some beetroot for small roots.  If it is mild into the winter, they will be fine.

Last year I put in various things when the first broad beans and onions came out.   Dwarf beans, beetroot, PSB plants,  carrots (nantes), lettuce, green stuff.  They all did very well.  The beetroot were quite a good size, and the carrots were like the early spring carrots in October.   Had greens and spinach all winter.

Our local garden centre has T&M seeds half price and some of them can  be sown now.

One of my nieghbours bought a set of calebrese broccoli plants and I have to say that they were very much worth the money since they each had a huge head.  But I am a seedoholic at heart.

Depends where you are, our warm growing season didn't end until December last year. We had no frost at all until the snow arrived on teh 21st. My tomatoes and peppers were still fruiting happily when teh snow killed them.

I'm about to sow carrots, lettuce, turnips, mooli, oriental greens, rocket, spinach, beets.

I've sown leeks this late before with no issues.

Give it a go, an indian summer and you'll be laughing.
