Train travel to Sicily - how?

Does anyone know of a website where I can book train tickets from the UK to Sicily?

My husband fancies going by train instead of flying but I don't have a clue how to arrange it.  Last time we went by train was over 40 years ago!

I spent ages googling and couldn't come up with anything half as good as that site.  Haven't had a chance to study it yet, but will do this evening.  It looks excellent at first glance.

Squash - its the best site I know, I've used it for France, Switzerland etc and friends have used it for France and Spain. You've got me thinking now....... ;)

It is a long way and presume you need two ferries as well.  What about Easyjet?

We have travelled by train to Milan several times - not nearly as far as you're planning! We really enjoy going by train and would do it all the time except it is so much more expensive. It can also be a bit of a faff booking the tickets - seat61 is absolutely great but to get the best fares you have to book well ahead and the Eurostar booking dates are different to most of the european companies - SNCF, Trenitalia etc. I think they are improving through ticketing though - RailEurope is much easier to use than it used to be. Last year we went to Puglia and were going to go by train up to Milan - between 85 - 100 euros each, then realised we could get a flight on Ryanair for 5 euros each - no contest. I think you just have to look at the journey as part of your holiday - flying is no holiday at all, hate it more and more, treated like cattle really. Have a wonderful time however you decide to travel.

Checking the fares, flying would cost less. I know some people can not fly for various reasons.

Personally, I would go to a good travel agent and let them sort it out. There are some great ferries round the Med and I think I would check them out too.

Exactly how I feel - more and more I look for the non-flying options, airports are just getting worse!
You can get deals but it does take some shopping around - we went by train to Amsterdam for £85 return - at the time cheaper than flying. But with train travel I don't think it's always about cost - it's the journey  :)
