Raspberries and wind-rock.

On GQT this afternon we were advised to cut back plants such as buddleia and lavatera to avoid wind-rock. I wondered whether this might be a good reason to cut down my autumn raspberries now, rather than in spring. I notice the GW website has this on their "what to do this week" list, but I seem to remember most people here leave them until spring?

I can't see raspberries being affected by wind-rock, they're too tough, with thin stems and hefty root systems. Cut them down now if you want, though; it won't do any harm. I cut Buddleias immediately after flowering.

Thanks. I think I might cut them down earlier than I have in the past so that I've got time to sort out the dead stuff, rogue shoots, weeds etc and mulch while there's not too many other things to be done!But I'll wait until this cold snap is over!

I was a bit worried about my summer fruiting raspberries, because the wind can be very strong here, near the sea. I trimmed them back a little, and I've got a plan to build a better support for them. Got to get round to it...  :-\

So I was quite heartened to see your post Robert.

But I ought to get round to making the support for them anyway  :)
