Aubergine side shoots

I've 2 money maker plants,very healthy but with Loads of side shoots,do I nip as with tomotoes?

Not yet  the advice is to pinch out the growing tip when the plant is 12 inch tall to encourage it to bush, when 5 fruits have formed then remove any side shoots and extra flowers

I find this pinching idea very strange.

1. Two untouched plants fight for room in a growbag.

2. Is a huge, difficult plant worth growing for 5 fruits?
