Grows to 2 m and is a traditional mangetout with quite long pods. I have a soft spot for it and am growing a few this year.

Hiya, Janet..we grew carouby last year, ours grew about 5' tall and tasted really good, lots of pods..haven't the room this year with the big peas but they are well worth growing and the flowers are pretty  ;D

I've got a few in flower at the moment - was going to grow them with sweet peas but when I planted them out the birds got them and I thought all was lost. A few survived and they are at least as tall as me - just over 5'. Can't comment on taste yet - but they are very pretty  ;D

Thanks folks. Daughter wants some peas on her plot & I have about 350 of those so I think I can spare her some ;D.

They get my vote, I'm growing some again this year.  Although a tall variety of mangetout, they are not massive. Similarly to the others mine have got to about 5 1/2' with lots of pretty flowers and lovely large tasty pods, well worth it.

Mine are just recovering from a ground hog attack but never have reached 5 feet because they quit when it gets hot which is right now this year. Might let these pods go for next year's seed.

Hiya,

Is it worth starting any of these off now (temperatures 26degrees or so at the moment), mt first sowing was mauled by the local wildlife and never got going again.

Also do they have any resistance to mildew?

Try it and see. Theoretically you can, in practice, as you suggest, late pea plantings tend to get mildew badly.
