Am wanting to make some cloches to protect brassicas and spotted some old  grey hose in the lottie lane, on a heap of rubbish.  Would this work as well as the blue water pipe tp support fleece?  I'm thinking that I could push bamboo canes into the ends.  The hose is wider than uual.

It depends on how rigid its Gwynneth but i would still grab it as it may make a good irrigation hose.

Yes, I tried using ordinary hosepipe and it was hopeless because it wasn't rigid enough- ans the sun can make it go even more floppy.

Yes, I thought of that, so might just keep a look out for the blue stuff!

By using short lenghts of hose pipe and then pushing bamboo canes into it you can form wigwam shape or by using three canes a elongated U shape.
Which will then suppot your nets, even support debris netting... ;)

You can strengthen a floppy row of hoops by lashing a bamboo along the tops of them - preferably just inside the hoops to save catching ends catching on netting or fleece.

Thanks for your suggestions re using cane to strengthen- if I can persuade OH to come along with his saw I'll give it a go-nothing ventured, nothing gained!

You could use cable ties to tie the cane in too.
