Cherry tree

I got a small cherry tree, grown from seed from a local wild cherry tree, at an Eco-day recently. It is in a 6" pot and about 9 tall and I'm thinking of putting it n a big terracotta pot. Any tips on how to care for it and how quickly it will grow?

Care for it like any pot plant if you really want it in a pot.
Better still  give it a life in a forest or woodland, or maybe hedgerow as soon as you can. Prunus Avium the wild cherry grows very quickly once  the roots get established. In the woodlands where we plant them about three feet a year is normal. They will start to flower at about 12 years old but this varies considerably with site conditions.
I would not say this is an ideal container plant due to its speed of growth and it is a timber tree that will grow to about 80 to 100 feet tall.
Then again I suppose people do bonsai trees but that is a different ball game that I just cannot enjoy.
Seriously in a pot will probably be OK for a few years as the pot will restrict its growth then you could plant it. I would not say it will make a beautifull feature in a pot though.

Ok, thanks. They were given away free, so not too precious. Might do a bit of gorilla gardening with it!
