Gooseberry bushes have no fruit

Some of my bushes have no fruit (and they did last year).  I think this was because I let them get overgrown with weeds (now rescued).  

Any ideas on how to get fruit or is it too late for this year?

PS they were planted between 2007-2009 and some have fruited before.  I do have fruit on 3 bushes but not a lot because they are quite new.
