Is it still legal to put cotton across and over plants to protect them from the pigeons. Sound cruel but so was it to pull my foot high autumn peas out. Little b----------

Twiggy peasticks or mahonia trimmings placed in front and behind, just outside pecking distance, work  ;)

those wooden barbecue sticks you get in packets of a hundred for a pound - stick em in the ground at angles round vulnerable plants or randomly in pots.   Just mind your hands and eyes when you delve in there yourself.

Only worry I'd have with the string thing is it might tangle up in blackbirds and robins legs when they try and help out by eating aphids and caterpillers.

As it happens I can recommend my cat Mikki for this job, I was sat by the window the other day when i heard this commotion, I looked out and there he was proud as punch with a whopping pigeon under him, I went down to see it and he tried to run of with it, however I got it off him and erm it is now erm featherless and in my freezer. I keep eyeing up the other 3 that hang around here, but they see Mikki and run off now, cowards.

I think I may get myself a .22 air rifle their cheap enough and great fun for pigeons and rats. Oh I am so shameless and mean. Then again so are them Ruddy pigeons with my crops.

One of my neighbours strung up two dead pigeons & wasn't bothered by any more after that!  The smell wasn't great though   :P

I have seen this done in Australia to dissuade crows. Yesh it stinks, but it is very effective...

Yes I have heard that if you hang dead birds up it keeps them away.  I have been machining channels in debris netting to thread bendy canes through (what a job) now I have all of these long green tunnels over every thing. Suppose I should have done it before, just hate loads of construction all over the plot.

My lotty is covered in Debris netting at the moment to keep everything fluffy and feathered off my plants, I've tried all the cotton and Cd's dangling all over the place (they don't work),  to many houses overlook my lotty for the action I would like to take,
