Celeriac question....

I sowed some celeriac seeds at the begining of Feb.   I had them indoors on my windowsill until the beginning of April and since then i have been putting them in my plastic mini greenhouse in the day (making sure the temperarture doesn't drop below 10c) and i've been bringing them in at night.

The plants are still only about 1 inch high now...is this normal as i've never grown it before?

There are various reasons why this might have happened...

They like lots of light, water, and rich feeding.

Make them up a nice rich moist sunny bed and plant them ASAP - they should take off.

No need to keep them indoors this late - they are very hardy, just make sure you give them slug protection.

ours have been in the ground for a week, they're really coming on now I've planted them out  :)

I may have found the answer to their small growth....i used peat free compost for half my seeds this year and all my seedlings are still small (which i put down to the cold weather).  On saturday i watched beechgrove garden and they had a few mins looking at their peatfree trials...there was one peatfree compost where the seedlings were smaller and discoloured and the seedlings looked exactly like my seedlings.  I took out a few seedlings to look at the roots and each root was small and looked at the stage you would prick them out.

I am working through my seeds now re-potting in multipurpose compost but i'm convinced it's the peatfree compost which i'm really angry about...but i haven't got the bags now and i can't remember the make.

Anyway i planted the celeriac in newspaper pots as i thought celariac doesn't like root disturbance so will it be ok to plant out taking the newspaper/peat free compost off

also...

i thought celariac isn't frost hardy and we still may have frosts here in the midlands?

Celeriac is fully hardy... but keep it wet.  :-X
