I'm sure you can still grow plenty of things.

In a small patch, if you only manage to clear that - you could do lettuces of various kinds, beans, radishes - lots of people are only starting to sow now, so as long as you have the space, you could get growing.

Now the days are longer and the temperature warmer, things will grow faster anyway.

i took my plot at the end of may and it was couched over, with mares tail and bind weed to boot, still managed a few pumpkins and toms in pots.you say youve a greenhouse going in so theres a huge bonus.

all depends on what the grounds like as said but just enjoy having the plot with your plans, and start getting it how you want it.

i wasnt really intrested in growing much the first year if honest, was more concerned in getting it ideal for the next year and beyond

Hiya, Darren, welcome to a4a  ;D
wow, good time to get a plot..you could start off some stuff to plant out when you've cleared some ground, maybe some of the folks on your site will have some tomato plants etc over, i know we always sow too many, happy plotting  ;D

You've got time to get some good squash if you want.... dig a small hole, pile up a load of manure, (do that in several places about a metre apart) through a mulch sheet over it, cut a cross through the sheet at the top of each pile and plant a squash/pumpkin in there.... They'll grow over and obscure the light, most things will have died off by the autumn for lack of light, take the sheet off and start digging it properly.... Do that on any bit you don't think you can clear quickly... also you can grow things in builders dumpy bags (freecycle) half-filled with soil/manure (freecycle for the topsiol too).... I had a lot of benas and sweetcorn out of that last year when I took on my plot... the soil under them is now pretty much devoid of anythign else and a lot easier to dig through, plus the topsoil in the bags is good dtuff to use to improve it......

Yes, have you seen the plot? Is it dug over or not?
you can always dig over a small patch and sow beans, and it's the right time now to sow summer and winter squash. For stuff like tomatoes, aubergines etc you are too late to sow your own but you can get plug plants and plant them out soon. You can also buy leek seedlings soon and put those in for the colder weather, along with autumn cabbages, and you can still sow Brussel sprouts (Just in a cleared corner of the garden will do).
Good luck and welcome!
2012 - Snow in February, non-stop rain till July. Blight and rot are rife. Thieving voles cause strife. But first runner beans and lots of greens. Follow an English allotment in urban France: http://roos-and-camembert.blogspot.com

Where are you based darren4767? I am in Manchester and have quite a few spare seedling going for free including tomatoes. Or if anybody else would like some veg seedlings, it's a shame to waste good seedlings.

cabbage,
cauliflower,
sprouts,
kale,
tomato,
parsnip,
mammoth onion,
sweetcorn.
