I just cannot stop.

Have just planted a tomato plant and a pepper plant, and sown climbing bean seeds in pots on my balcony in Nice.

I have an automatic watering system and when I return in early July hope to have a feast.

The problem is that I expect that the beans will tend to smother everything and try to escape the balcony.

But can you bring them back to UK with you?

As far as I know, you cannot import soil from Europe, only bare root plants.

So I hide my lovely healthy plants from German markets in bin bags under my luggage in the boot of my car.

What is your plan?

I have a large healthy lemon grass given to me in Malaysia. At the frontier back to Singapore, I was refused entry because of soil. So I shook much of it off, buried it in my luggage, and brought it back to UK via Singapore and Bangkok. I love it. It has survived 2 winters in our sittingroom, and is due to go back out onto allotment next month.

My Thai daughter-in-law is going to show me how to use it.

I don't think he intends to bring them into the UK but will eat them when in Nice. Nice!!

Do you have any idea why you are not allowed to take this stuff over borders?

I am sure if you asked someone would go to Nice & look after them for you ;).

LOL Grawc,, you beat me to it,I thought the Dr needed a Dr too, this is real dedication. I can't picture a garden unattended.  All about, won't the beans just sulk if they are not picked regularly?

It would be fun to go back and find out how far they have managed to creep though.I can just see the headlines

" Lonely green beans invade Nice while trying to escape"

Good luck with it, good idea really.
