Can anyone advise on how to help my poorly chicken.  She came out of the house this morning and just stood there all hunched up, wasn't interested in food.  I left her for a couple of hours and no change so I soaked her bum in a bucket of warm water for 10mins incase she was egg bound and put her back in the house for some peace and quiet.  She stayed in there all day and there was a lot of very watery, yolky poo on the floor but she's still the same.  Any help greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

If she is still the same tomorrow and not eating I would have to cull her rather then see her suffer.

I'm hoping for a miraculous recovery overnight, I agree I wouldn't want to see her suffer.  Thanks.

no don't cull her - put her in a nice big cardboard box and bring her in the house - anywhere warm in fact. Heat is like a wonder drug. Let her sit for 2/3 days. As long as she has access to water, she will stay in her box quite happily...or she will die.
Best anyway, to isolate her from the other birds as they may peck or harrass a sick bird since they are generally unwelcome in a flock as an unwell bird will atrract predators.
We had one like this a few weeks ago who made a good recovery after 3 days of peace and warmth. It is worth a try.

I didn't have a box but the downstairs loo seems to be doing the trick so we will give that a go.  Thanks.

Sadly Avril died in the night.  RIP Avril.

You can only do your best cant you
When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

Glenburnie

Thank you both...you do get attached even if they are only chickens, but then she was a spent hen when I got her so she got an extra happy year with me. :)
