Trachycarpus fortunei 'Bulgaria', reputedly hardy to -20C but I don't risk it as it spends winter inside.

Here's another favorite of mine from your side of the pond John Washingtona filifera, grew this from seed and quite chuffed with myself 8)

As you should be. I had my first attempt at germinating palms this year (Brahea armata, the Mexican Blue Palm), and got exactly 0% germination! I also did Ravenela madagascariensis, Travellers Palm, and that failed too. I've germinated bananas (Travellers Palm is actually a banana/bird of paradise, as a note for EJ, who might like something different- it has a unique growth habit) quite successfully in the past so I'm left wondering if it was me or the seed house. I solved that problem though: I bought a small plant on E-Bay!
