I got the call today accepting my application for the job with Rotherham Council.  They were very impressed in the interview and as such im one of the lucky few who will be trained up to drive the Ride on Lawnmowers which also means more brass.  I start on the 15th and today handed in my notice with my current employer.  Thanks eveyone for your kind support, i wonder if they will let me keep some of the grass cuttings for my compost bin.
Im the gaffer in our house, the missus said i could be.

Nice on Woody, grass cuttings, leaves you'll be in your element.   ;D ;D ;D
MAY THE CORN BE WITH YOU.

lorna

Congratulations, well done.

Mortality

Please don't be offended by my nickname 'Mortality'
As to its history it was the name of a character I played in an online game called 'Everquest'
The character 'Mortality Rate' was a female Dark Elf Necromancer, the name seemed apt at the time and has been used alot by me over the years.

Congratulations. Just remember that lawnmowers are for grass and not flowerbeds.

Is the job actually with the council, or is it contractors that do the council jobs. If it is the council you will be made, don't worry about the poor wages the pension at the end usually at 55 if they still do it will be worth it. Also sick pay and holidays are usually a lot better than the private sector. Training and protective clothing  is free and the certificates are in your name. Get on every course you can, chain saws, herbicides, every motorised machinery  course going. It gets you up the ladder a bit quicker. They encourage unions and usually have a good relationship with them. Thats the council way of doing things. You should not need the union for employer/worker relations. But they will stand by you and help out when a member of the public makes an allegation about you. They try to claim for broken windows, dents in their cars, anything they think the council will cough up for.

If the job is with contractors, think hard before you give your other job in. Minimum wage, stood off in the winter, buy your own safety gear.  Not a job for life.
