I saw my first bumblebee of the year today, a very big black one with a white bum! Hope she likes snowdrops and dafodills  ;D

Lucky you! I saw honey bees on my white crocus yesterday.  :)

I haven't seen a bumblebee yet, or a honeybee foraging for that matter. I've seen them out for poo flights and that's all.

I may regret asking  ;D  but will you explain a little more?

In summer, all the young bees come out once a day to fly around, get their bearings, and have a poo if they need to. In winter, there are long periods when it's too cold to fly, but they nip out on mild days, circle round a bit, and go. If they start going in the hive, it's a sign that there's something wrong.

Ah thank you, makes sense. I'm not sure its the same though similar, nest animals and non, eg pigs-horses.

We don't even have dafs yet, let alone bumblebees.

It's all so bizarre, although it's been quite cold we have had little of the extremes of weather much of the country has had. Possibly because I'm on a peninsular? Our weather seemed very localised, last summer, missed most of any sunshine and had rain and rain and some more rain!
