Popcorn makers?

Anyone got one of these, and what make/where bought/ how much did you pay for it?

(after Googling & reeling from shock at the prices the search has thrown up, I reckon I've got a popcorn maker already in my kitchen - my big pasta pan with a tight-fitting lid :o)....however, thought I'd ask...

I can't see the point of them, as you said a pan with a tight fitting lid works well or you can make it in the microwave in a bowl with a plate on top.

If you did decide to buy one it would be worth shopping around, Argos have one for £39.99 the same make/model costs £10.16 plus £4.95 delivery from this company

I have one, didn't pay much, it is hot air and works great, if course it does chuck a bit around the kitchen when it gets going and woe betide you if it chucks an unpopped one your way, they aint 'alf 'ot.

Wouldn't be without it though, beats a pan or microwave anyday  I think and I have tried them all..

Reminds me of the time, many years ago when my daughter decided to make when she was on her own.

She left the lid off the pan.

She assured me that she put the lid on, as soon as she realised and swept up the mess.

But

You have no idea of the places I kept finding pop-corn.

Baccyman, a million thanks for the link to the maker from Hurst...the same model I'd seen at Argos-on-Line, so it's a really great saving...it's a hot-air one (like Jeannine, it's the one I'd prefer to have) and I was prepared to buy it UNTIL I read the reviews.....hmmm, back to the Drawing Board.

I'm going to try the pan+little oil tomozz although I really did want a 'dry' popcorn.

Thing is, I'm going to start a 2-month research project at home and just know that I'm going to want to munch (or smoke! horror!) my way through the evenings, which is why I want to find a lo-calorie munch to see me through. Fresh popcorn with a slight sprinkling of lo-salt seems ideal...

You can make a 'dry' popcorn in a microwave. You just need a bowl a plate & some popcorn kernels, there is no need to add butter or oil before popping as many websites suggest.

My air/blower popcorn machine was bought for less than £10 in '91 and is still going strong.

Yes, I could use a pan (or microwave), but I prefer the switch on & leave approach... All I need to do is make sure the bowl is positioned under the dispenser; that leaves me free to make the topping/seasoning.  ;)

Sorry for the delay last night - RL (which didn't include popping corn) got in the way.  However, after a substantial late breakfast of hot freshly popped corn, straight from the microwave, with just a sprinkling of lo-salt over it, I'd like to say that.....

I suppose like woolfy Smith (freedom for Tooting) you are making a list of those of us  whom you are going to put up against the wall in front of a firing squad. If Baccy man is going to allow smoking in pubs again, (a separate room is fine) He can have my vote.

Machines need washing too..........

As for the oil, One tablespoonful yeilds more popcorn than I could eat in a week.
