Ok, so this has nothing to do with gardening at all, but I cannot find a whinge about life forum worth going on. (Too full of whingers for me). For the last 6 weeks or so I have had a major stomach problem caused by an adverse reaction to medication. Not good except that it stopped me eating. So as you would expect I lost weight. Hurrah, nearly a stone. Well, on Sunday we had visitors, and I noticed at Dinner that the only person with less than me on the plate was the 3 year old grandson. And I confess to struggling to eat whatI had. So? says you. Well last night as is my habit, before plunging myself in hot soapy water, I availed myself of modern technology and used the scales. Guess what? I have started to regain the weight I have lost. And not just a little, like 3lbs. So now if I get my appwetite back and eat like a normal(ish)person instead of a 5 year old infant, how much weight am I going to put back? Thank-you whinge over. Anyone for a home-made crust with home made Damson jam?

Drink is no problem, alcohol is a no go area for me, has been for a long time. Very special occasions only.

Hi  Palustris, i am very pleased to hear your good news.
My husband had a similar  thing happen to him over some drug he was given had to be rushed to hospital happened just about 3 mths
ago, it was very worrying but thank god he is well now.
Do take great care of yourself and take it easy.  All the very best to you. Keep in touch about your weight gain ok.

Poor you Eric. I hate it when I can't eat!

You metabolism has probably slowed down to cope with the decreased amount of food you're eating. Hopefully when you're back to your proper diet and exercise (I assume you're doing less at the moment too) it'll all level out.

Try to eat lots of little meals, rather than a few larger ones. It's much easier for the stomach to deal with then.
gone to pot :D

Moggle

Yep, Aqui is probably right. The advice usually given about starvation 'dieting' is that your metabolism slows down to cope with the lack of food, then goes in to overdrive once you start eating again. This could apply to you.

Hopefully if you eat small, regular meals like Aqui suggests you might be able to level it out, before you put all that weight back on.

And don't panic about the 3lbs yet, your weight can vary naturally from day to day and during the day I think. (why does it always fluctuate up with me though  :-\)
Lottie-less until I can afford a house with it's own garden.

I think Aqui and Moggle are right Eric. I am sure it is like when you go on a diet and lose weight,  as soon as you revert to normal again the body seems to overcompensate by laying down fat as a self defense mechanism.

I am sure once you are stablised your body will go back to its average weight as long as you are eating your normal diet. Just try not to worry about it and start enjoying your food again.  :D busy_lizzie
