Went out walking yesterday and came across a corner of a Field that had been planted with Eucalyptus.

A lot less than that. Those brutes grow faster than you can cut them. But I expect they are for the florist trade who use the juvenile leaves. They do coppice quite well and the new shoots come back quickly.
