In 2006 young Lorna and me bought a Champion petrol lawn mower. In 2007 3 months after the guarantee ran out there was a petrol leak and we had to have a new tank fitted. Believe it or not there is now another petrol leak. I am going to have it checked and if it is the tank again there will be a strong worded letter written to the manufacturers. The last tank cost £33.

I wouldn't have paid for the first replacement, mate. give them grief, and use the phrase 'fit for purpose', and remind them of sale of goods act, all goods must be fit for purpose, a fuel tank that leaks after a year is definately not manufactured well!!
You couldn't make it up!

Thanks Tony. I just want one of the boys to check that it is the tank and not something silly like a pipe (do they have pipes?) leaking. The last one was leaking round the seam that runs round the tank but this time the leak seems to be coming from underneath the tank. I put petrol in but saw the petrol dripping quite fast so I was nervous about starting it up in case of a spark. Thought my last fill of petrol went quick!!

I'm with tonybloke.  When the first tank 'went' I would have contacted Trading Standards.  His 'fit for purpose' means that it might just be out of guarantee, but you wouldn't have expected it to go belly up so soon after.

Too late now, I accept, but Trading Standards do do a very good service.

Yes Valmarg on reflection I should have done something about it instead of just paying up!! Grandson (mechanic) is picking the mower up tomorrow to take to his workshop to trace where the leak is coming from. I am going to tell him that if it is the tank not to do anything because I am going to write that "angry" letter. After all the new tank is only 2 years old. Will let you know how I get on.

Update. I emailed Focus regarding the leaking tank. I have just received an email back to say usual thing... very sorry to hear of my problems. They said they have not received any other complaints. However, they are going to send me a cheque for the 1st replacement tank £33.79. as a goodwill gesture.
My Grandson has taken delivery of a new tank £15.98 including delivery £3.99.
So I have got a bit of a result. Will have to see how long this one lasts!!!!

glad to hear you have had some sort of result, lorna!!
