any other secretaries getting fed up with phone costs...increasingly i only get given mobile numbers as contacts, dont folk have landlines anymore?
anyway, its free for me to call landlines, but not mobiles,so am thinking of getting a pay as you go mobile, only for lottie business use,and getting it paid for from the kitty. the cost wouldnt be very much, but im fed up that it is MY cost every month, has this worked for anyone else?

Nothing new, I have not been on a committe for a fair few years now, but when I was this was a problem back then.

Pay as you go can work out very exspensive, if I was you, use your own phone, but keep track of the cost and claim the money back.
If you are with BT, if you register on-line, it is quite easy to workout the totals.
If there's nothing wrong with me, maybe there's something wrong with the universe!

I've got my own mobile - just a basic pay-as-you-go Nokia - but as I use it mainly for allotment business I quite often put in a chit for a top-up. It's never been queried. After all, my contact number is on the gate and on the Borough's website. You wouldn't be expected to pay for postage out of your own pocket, so why phone calls? (OK, the odd few, but not on a regular basis.)

But I always ask for e-mail addresses, both from existing members and anyone joining the waiting list. For a start, it's free. It's also much more convenient - no leaving messages on answer-phones or voice-mail. And we also use it to send out newsletters and such-like. (Imagine delivering 80-plus by hand, or the cost of postage!) As we always send "blind copy" on mass mailings, most folk are happy about that.

I've got a pay as you go for allotment use only. the number is on the council website, and on all communication letters. cost about £20 a month. (we do have over 1000 plots, and nearly 700 members on 14 sites)
You couldn't make it up!

thanks chaps
cornhill,i often have to use my mobile when onsite, and dont want to pay extra for itemised billing. the other day when the greenhouses got smashed i had to make 14 calls, for example,it all adds up,esp when youre a student like me!
and yes trevor,i use email wherever i can, sooo much more convenient for me and the people im contacting, but again, not when onsite. pay as you go it will be methinks.
also,my private telephone numbers are kept just that!
