Can anyone recommend a thermometer for the greenhouse? Bit of a strange request may be as a thermometer is a thermometer but the last two I bought have had the mercury separate due to high temperatures (the greenhouse was then empty) so I need one that I can use all year round and won't explode in the Summer. Min / max feature required and don't mind if it digital, battery powered. Thanks.

I found one here www.thermometersdirect.co.uk - good to find a company that ships abroad without costing an arm and a leg.

Got mine from Wilkinsons – good price and has been fine these last 2 years – also they have a bit of a sale on for some gardening bits

you must have had an exceedingly hot greenhouse to knacker the thermometer.

However the way to repair separated mercury or alcohol thermometers is to heat them gently with a hairdryer or diy heatgun. You obviously have to be careful but when you've heated it enough to reconnect all the bits it should after cooling result in a functioning thermometer.

I've done this loads of times for laboratory thermometers.

Thanks, I did get a digi one in the end, waiting for it to arrive. Will try to fix the old one with the hair dryer though, good tip thanks. We had a really hot September when I was putting the greenhouse up and it must have gone well over 50 degrees inside as the mercury separated and the max indicator hasn't been seen since.

When my min/max thermometer mercury separated, I just shook it down violently until it went back together again! ::)
If it's not pouring with rain, I'm either in the garden or at the lottie! Probably still there in the rain as well TBH....🥴

Mine was a goner - tried the suggestions above and no dice. Received this last week and so far so good http://www.thermometersdirect.co.uk/acatalog/Dual_Display_Hygrometer_Thermometer.html
