ceder wood

I have been give a load of cederwood decking offcuts,they are only about 18" long and i was thinking of using them for burning and i was wondering if ceder burns well or just smoulders.Any info will be gratefully recieved. ???

You are probably not going to come across anything much better for kindling but I wouldn't recommend it as the main fuel source.
Cedar splits & lights easily but if it is too dry it burns very hot and quickly. It is an oily wood which tends to spit a lot so it's not always suitable for an open fire, if burnt in a stove it tends to be quite smoky unless you have the vents opened right up hence the reason I only reccommend it for kindling.

As they are decking offcuts then is it treated wood? If so i wouldn't burn them.
