I am thinking of moving a few fruit bushes  red and blackcurrent.  They are quite big - anyone any experience,  will they survive and will they survive a severe pruning to make the move more managable?

Hi Andrew, Hi all,  :)

Now is the time to do this. Prune and dig out a rootball, drop into a large hole but keep at the same level. No problem.

However ... there`s always an however .... its a good idea not to include couch grass in your root ball  :-[

... I am warmed by winter sun and by the light in your eyes.
I am refreshed by the rain and the dew
And by thoughts of you...

If you prune them hard, they'll have fewer leaves next year, lose less water, and be better able to re-establish themselves. Hack away, and don't be shy about it!

I moved my bushes 2 years ago.  I cut off a lot of the roots to get the couch grass out and all the tops down to about 6 inches.  They all survived and gave a good crop last year and this.  I think like rhubarb they are difficult to kill.

Just what I was hoping to hear.  Cheers

I've just planted two gooseberries and two raspberries from the garden centre, any suggestions on how much fruit I should get off them next year, :)

I move mine to keep them nervous. ;D
The handle on your recliner does not qualify as an exercise machine.

Moving them partly to make room for a shed and partly because they are too close together - making picking difficult. :)
