Does anyone have a parsnip to recommend that doesn't get too much canker? Speaking to a lottie friend he said he always grew Avon resister (I think that's what he said )but he believes it's been withdrawn and he dug a couple this week but they'd got canker.

As I still struggle with germination I tend to use any I can get... if they don't germinate they don't get it...  :-[

For my 2 years on my plot I have grown White Gem, as it is meant to grow well in heavy soils, which it does.
It does say it has some canker resistance, some have grown with some small brownish areas, what I am assuming is canker, but nothing that is not gone with one stroke of a peeler.

T&M still sell Avonresister, so I'm sure others still do

Just had a quick look, and marshal seeds also stock Avonresister, interestingly different options of canker resistance.

Quote from T&M
QuoteParsnip Avonresister is far and away the most resistant variety to canker.

And from marshal
QuoteWith some resistance to canker.

And just looked up, kings seeds also do them, half the price for twice as many as T&M, was thinking of trying a different variaty as well as my white gem, I think I'll give them a go.

I use Tender and True, good germination, stand a very long while and I've not had canker problems at all.

Interesting what you say conthehill because Kings seeds are the ones we sell at "the hut" and the chap in question helps out there so I don't know who' told him they've been withdrawn ::)

Macmac your chap is probably looking at a Kings printed order form for pictorial packets which doesn't list it.
But as conthehill says it certainly shows on their website list!
Flighty's plot,  http://flightplot.wordpress.com,  is my blog.

Yea, while I was at my plot today, I got handed the printed Kings catalog for the NSALG seed scheme.
I went straight to the parsnips to mark the Avonresister, only to find it not on the list :'(
