These are some beans grown by our Bangladeshi plotholders.

I've never seen anything like them before. I don't think they get any longer than they are in the photo because they are all gong to be picked this week.

I've never heard of them, but I googled lab-lab beans and they do look the same.  I don't know what they taste like, but they are pretty enough to grow just as an ornamental plant (which I probably will do next year!)

Shayek

Hello Everyone,
I am new here, I would like to know where I could get the seeds for Bangladeshi Beans? Anyone?

Thanks

ceres

Welcome to A4A shayek!  Perhaps Betty will be able to find out from her neighbours where they buy them from or if they came from Bangladesh.

Hello Shayek, welcome to A4A!

I will ask our Bangladeshis where they got the seeds from but I looked in the Thompson and Morgan catalogue and they sell them - as Dolichos lablab 'Ruby Moon' £1.49 a packet.  I don't know if they are exactly the same, there isn't a photo.
I'll take a closeup of the flowers when I go over there this morning.

I think she said they cut them up and use them in curry.  I didn't ask much about how they cook them, I was so impressed with the plants themselves that I forgot about eating them.  (wish I did that more often  :) )

Some photos of the flowers and pods taken this morning.
Do those of you who have grown them before think they are the same as the ones you grew?

There must be many different varieties of hyacinth bean just as there are hundreds of different runner bean.

Here's mine again.

They look great.  Do you eat the pods or the beans?  Has anyone any spare for a swap?
