Has anyone grown it?

If so, what were your thoughts on taste & how did it respond to our glorious UK weather?

There are general comments and images on the web, but I'd love your unbiased opinions. ;) Who knows, your responses might even talk me out of buying seeds.  :o

i grew it last year and this - wonderful pumpkin. Galeux (sp?) means for instance "scabby" as in suffering from scabies  ;D

I grew it a couple of years ago, it is a very pretty salmon pink to start off with, then gradually gets 'wartier' in storage. One lasted well into the new year. Tastewise I don't remember anything particularly wonderful....perhaps that is why I haven't grown it since! I got two fruits per plant.
This was one of mine.....

If it's not pouring with rain, I'm either in the garden or at the lottie! Probably still there in the rain as well TBH....🥴

Thanks everyone, helpful info. :)

I was going to buy seeds, but Chris I'll happily take you up on your offer. (If you'd like anything in return let me know; I'm currently sorting through my seed stash. ;) )

I grew it in 2006 but not since.  The main reason was that although it was certainly a talking point with everyone who saw it, because of the extremely crusty skin it was very difficult to cut!

Another thing, woodlice and other insects loved the crusty bits so you never knew what was going to crawl out of them.

So I would say, it's worth growing for the novelty value but there are so many squashes which are tastier and easier to get into.

Thanks  :)
The crusty bits reminded me of peanut shells.  It was quite interesting watching the crusties develop until they covered the whole squash. A really bizarre-looking thing really.

Sort of the Dorian Grey of squash then....

Wow, Squash, those crusty bits are impressive.

A friends daughter saw some of these in France & put in a request for next Hallowe'en... hopefully, I won't be called upon to carve it. ;) (Although, I suspect the flesh will be returned to me, so I'm glad to hear that it's palatable).

I think you'd need an electric drill to get through it!
