No it's not a pale green grass snake - just 34" of courgette.

Hi Digeroo - and all thanks to you for the seed. You were quite right that either the trompetto or alba would take off. Although the Lungo is doing ok the trompetto is now about 9 feet and threatening my runner beans.

I'm afraid I have no idea why it grew straight. I planted two in a pot with the bottom cut off and embedded in my bean bed. Later I removed the weaker of them and kept tying  the vine to an upright bamboo as it grew taller.

This photo was taken  three weeks ago and it is now over the top of the frame running along and hanging back down again. Hardly any courgettes developing on it. though picking this one might make a difference to that. (By the way, the Lungo is on its right)

Some of mine are only just starting to fruit but one has gone bananas and is producing loads and loads and loads.  It is on a take over bid of my plot and also the paths around the allotments.  Actually the ones on the ground seem to be producing more that the one climbing up bamboo.

Just got another packet from garden centre in swindon for 50p
