Hi, I have had some success with my cauliflowers this year but noticed that the one I harvested at the week end has a pink tinge on some of the florets. Could you tell me if it's still ok to eat?

Thanks, TEYman

Hi TEYman.
As far as i know they are OK to eat. lift it and take it home and i believe if you put some lemon juice into a bowl of water and soak the cauliflower in it will make the florets white again before you cook it.
But i may be wrong. Some one else will come along who  may know better . regards compo49.

Hi TEYman,

Dont worry about a tinge of colour in your cauli, its fine to eat.

I am fascinated how people worry that edible veg has suddenly turned toxic because its crinkly/ coloured/ got holes in it/has got green on it/ has had blight near it/ etc etc etc.

The only thing I know of, that happens like that is green potatoes, which, as everyone knows, are harmful.

Why plant rows of 24 lettuces??

mine went quite purpley and were ok but had started to rot a bit underneath...suppose thats down to all the rain

I reckon you've just left it in a few days too long, some of mine are like that.

Still perfectly edible though.
I hoe, I hoe, then off to work I go.

Ours went a bit pink last year had quite a bit of rain just before we got them in. They went white when blanched so don't worry
When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

I have grown some Deakin F1 as an autumn crop.  All are ready now and also have pink on the curds.  The crop itself is a poor one so I will be giving Deakin a miss in future.

We grew Deakin this year at someones suggestion, and got a 10 out of 10 row of 12" perfect curds - by far the best we have ever done!

Maybe you missed the "preferred weather" window??
Why plant rows of 24 lettuces??

another cauli problem - ours has lots of healthy green leaves on, about 10" in height, but no heads, looks like they've all come up blind.  Any suggestions why this might have happened?

Thanks

Hi bionear2 I think you've answered your own question on why people query something looks odd with your comment on green potatoes. If you don't ask you could eat something that will do you harm .....
