I am very glum about how the bugs and pests have got into my deep bed.
I had got spuds, cabbage and Cauli in this bed.
All that has been produced from it was six cabbage and three potato's and two small Cauli.

The rest fell to a barrage of cabbage white, slugs, and rats.
The rats lost the fight to escape and went over the fence to the farm track for the foxes.
Others have been despatched to the compost bin.

This is what I have saved for the table.



If there are any tips for reducing losses then bring them on.
I thought this method would do better, but not so.
Next year will hopefully reap better results.

Cabbages and spuds were put in the bed on the right of the picture.
All have been covered and kept under fleece.
I think it where we live that is the problem, we live close to the fields and the wildlife are in and out of the garden a lot.



We have tried in vain to encourage the wildlife in, but the vermin have also taken a liking to the garden too.

Similar problem with my lettuces.  Slugs have had a field day even though I bought nematodes this year as well as using pellets before and after applying nematodes which didn't work.  In fact, nematodes seems to attract MORE slugs than ever!!! 
I'm defiantely back to pellets and lots of them I think!!!//
