I tried to grow some slips early in the year and ended up with a rotton tuber instead. The following set i bought to eat grew slips all on their own while sitting on the window sill awaiting the pot.

i didn't have the heart to bin them so grew them on they are now the size you see in the picture and will need potting up this week.

i know some of you have overwintered these plants before and i was wondering what chances do i have of doing the same.

would they be OK in an unheated greenhouse or would they be better off inside the conservatory?

i was thinking of putting them into the popular black flower buckets, do you all think this would be sufficient for over the winter?

I'm happy to hear all your suggestions, tah :).

I overwintered 12, 1 survived  ;D
that one is doing quite nicely, I took the cuttings when we harvested the sweet pots, in september, I had to keep them in the house all winter, they don't like cold, same as the tubers  :)

manics did you feed and actively grow them over the winter or just kept them watered and ticking over till early spring?

manicscousers

just planted them in multi purpose, kept them damp overwinter and re-potted the remaining one in spring  :)

from what i can see and what you have said before yours were cuttings, with mine being plants with a really good root system I'm hoping they will survive the winter indoors.

i think i will leave them in the greenhouse till the first frost forecast, then I'll bring them in unless they show signs of cold stress earlier.

i did pot them on today, next pot size up. I'm hoping they don't end up in the black buckets before moving to the house, the family can barely cope with the great spring plant invasion. last winter they just about tolerated the over wintered chillies in the black bucket :-\

i still have all my kitchen herbs window sill plants to move back in when the weather turns, they are all so much bigger and they also seemed to have multiplied in numbers as well :-[.
