Help...been on North Tyneside waiting list for 2 years! Is there any end?

Hi

I have been on the waiting list for an allotment in North Tyneside for 2 years and have been told I am unlikely to receive a plot for another 2 years minimum due to high waiting lists.  I have also registered with Newcastle in the last year.
Can anyone provide any help as to how I can quicken up the procedure, or does anyone know of any vacant plots in the area?

I'm well out of your area, but have you tried the self managed sites ?

I was number 218 on the council waiting list in Rochdale (North Manchester) and as only 2-3 plots come free per year.... I'd be soil conditioner before my name was reached !
I toured the self managed sites on a Sunday morning and put my name down on a couple, within a year I had a plot. This is a lot to do with the self managed sites being much more on the ball when it comes to evicting people for non cultivation and not allowing plots to get passed onto mates and relatives under the radar of the council.

Find out where the self managed sites are (your council will know) and try your luck there. Alternatively, have you considered the Landshare scheme ? Google it and you'll see that there are more ways to find a bit of land.

I have just registered with a Landshare scheme so hopefully something might come up.

I haven't looked at self managed sites but I will contact the council next week to see if they can point me in the rigt direction.

i was on almost 3 years and took the first thing that was offered in north shields balkwell, the council are clearing another 6 plots now so they may be offers there soon, also there are empty plots.  i pestered them with weekly phone calls and twice weekly emails, they will get sick of it in the end and offer you something.

Just one thing to mention re your going on the Newcastle waiting list. I've heard, in a sort of roundabout way, that Newcastle, which also has long waiting lists, MIGHT in future be limiting plots to residents of Newcastle only.  this is only sort of a rumour but something to bear in mind if you live outside N'cle city boundary.  It would be awful if you got a N'cle plot and started working on it, only to have to leave some time in the future.

I'm sure that there is/was some land advertised on Landshare in N Tyneside 0 North Shields. Might be worth checking. Good Luck!!

We have 2 sites totalling around 120 plots in our Teeside town.  If you put your name on our list today you will be waiting around 5 years for one site and 8-10 years for the other.  2-5 years appears to be the average waiting times around the country at present.  Some sites have closed waiting lists altogether because they are over 10 years!  One site recently said it would take around 41 years if you were placed on their waiting list due to high demand.

I'm fairly sure we've still got some plots left in our private allotment site in Benwell, West End of Newcastle, although I guess that's a bit far for you to travel.  I can find the phone number for you if you have no luck closer to home.
