Melons and water melons thinning out

Noticed this morning that there are a few water melons forming, about the size of a chicken's egg, how many would you allow per plant. Melons are a bit smaller but I was thinking of about 3 per plant, does that sound about right and at what size would you remove them? I'd hate to take them off and the rest don't mature.

I was asked the same Q on the plot this morning and suggested 3 melons and two watermelons per plant...  :-\

I have 5 plants and i have one melon. I also have lots of flowers but no other darn melons. Any tips ?

we pollinated by hand last year, ended up with lots, really should have taken some off so had small ones   ;D

Well, I'm trying again this year after I swore not to, I have 4 pineapple melon plants growing in my home greenhouse, and they are only about a foot long and just starting to produce flowers.........I think this might be my last attempt! :-\ ::)

I got 2 melon seeds in the seed swap which are currently growing in 5" pots but are 8-10" long/high.  Will they be fine if just transplanted into larger containers as their final resting place?  Never tried them before so I know nothing of growing melons.

Anyone having problems with melons should try Blacktail Mountain, a very early watermelon, and Hero of Lockinge, a melon bred for growing in the UK.

I've got Minnisota Midget all over the polytunnel and covered with flowers. There are several set and growing nicely but tennis ball size is about as big as they are meant to get.

I grew Sugar Babe last year, and have "Blacktail Mountain" doing well this year.

One of my sugar babe doing well, but the rest have been very very slow to get going.  It looks like I will be joining the 'don't talk to me about melons' club.

My first squash is six inches long.
