Cucumber: How to Plant?

I'm unsure on how to plant my Marketmore cucumber outside on my plot.

Is there a special technique to plant them? Some kinda earthing up required?

How much room will one plant take?

plant on a mound of earth so when watering doesnt come in to contact with the stem this will prevent from rotting off and thus the plant dying will you be growing up or across the ground ?

As an alternative to a mound you could consider this way;

So, the water must not come into contact with the stem? But what about rainwater??

What you are trying to keep relatively dry is the part of the stem at the surface of the soil/compost.

The surface of the soil at this point can be much colder than the air above and the soil below.

A bit like you wearing wet socks, your feet feel colder than they would do  if you had no socks on at all.

A plant is designed to cater for rain fall but not for what some of we humans simulate as rainfall.

Sometimes I begin them in a pot then transplant.
The paper collar is a good idea to help keep slugs off ( at least here with small slugs)
The plants will climb up anythiing in the area so give them something to climb at the start . (Mine are about 6-7 feet tall already and still reaching) rather than later. If left to sprawl they'll take over your garden.

They like watering regularly.
