Raspberry Question

I planted Autumn Bliss last year, and ate my first raspberry today :o
Is this normal or should I go back to the nursery? I thought they wouldn't fruit until Autumn.

I would just be grateful for raspberries at any time of year. :D

i have fruit on my 'free' autumn bliss (t&m)
planted in march!!
mind you 2 out of the 6 canes are dead :(

I have tons of rasberries at the moment and they are almost at the bright red colour, but mine only seem to be growing form a side shoot and no where else on the plant

Your Autumn Bliss raspberries sound fine Emaggie. Enjoy them  :) They do fruit anytime from mid summer through to late autumn, depending on the weather. They come under the "autumn fruiting" category which means they fruit on fresh canes that have been produced in the same year, so at the end of this year you cut down the fruited canes and in spring next year, new canes will grow and they will bear fruit. As opposed to "summer fruiting" which fruit on canes produced the previous year, which you mustn't cut down.

We're picking about a pound a day off our Joan J at the moment - if you prune them the right way you can do it with any primocane but you'll get scratched arms with Autumn Bliss (Joan J is smooth). Instead of cutting them down at the end of the year, leave the ones that haven't fruited yet (I take them down a bit, but more for tidiness). They'll produce fruit early next summer, then remove them as the season goes.

Last year (my first with JoanJ) I got my last 3or 4 raspberries a week before Christmas.
I think now is early - I don't even have my summer ones yet but I don't think you need to worry.
