Perished car tyres

Anyone know how long you can expect car tyres to last before they perish.

Honda dealer told us at the last service we needed to replace all our tyres because they are perished. How can you tell. They have plenty of tread left only done 25500 miles but they're the original tyres the car is 53 reg. Any experts out there?

The did a hard sell on the replacement.

A lot longer than that! I run a K reg Fiesta that has the original tyres fitted!
Go to a tyre place and get a second opinion. If they do need changing then they'd be far cheaper than a main dealer.

If you have had the car standing for any length of time in the sun over the years then rubber will perish like cracks in the tyre wall and you could also have flat spots, at my last MOT the main agents said that my tyres were below the legal limit when I pointed out to them that I had checked them myself and also had a second opinion from another tyre company they then started to make excuses I know what happens in the trade I've been there, go and get a second opinion,  :)

Defo get a second opinion. They may be right though - am not sure what a 53 reg is? (am still on L!)

My first car was an old banger with perfectly legal tyres but when I put two new front ones on it, it transformed the handling, and felt loads safer round corners. When I put these nearly-new tyres on my current car (which also had OK tyres) it suddenly became much easier to park!

53 =september 2003 reg. No it doesn't sit on the drive but it doesn't travel far in a week but the wheels get to move around nearly every day.
On principle I wouldn't buy tyres from them, because we were surprised enough that the airconditioning wasn't included in the service and was charged as an extra. I have a local garage which used to service my previous car just around the corner so I'm not doing a 20 mile round trip to have tyres fitted by them plus the time away from my allotment involved.
We do have a south facing drive and it gets very hot in summer, we have to paint the window frames of the house every year as it just blisters off in the heat so the tyres are getting the same heat.

We decided that since the car doesn't get much use we don't need expensive ones anyway.
