I have planted my broad bean plants in the wrong place on my allotment. I didn't know that they are not 'climbers', so I have planted them at bamboo canes and tied them to the bamboo. The canes are 7ft tall!  :o

Anyhow, I now know how to support them. Can I dig them up and move them?

They have been in the ground for 6 days, and are about 8" tall.

I'm no expert (but love broad beans), and at this early stage I would take the risk and move them if I found a more suitable spot for them. I tend to go with my instincts there, and if the new location seems a lot better than the current position I re-plant most youngish plants. Most of them will tolerate it given extra care and attention. Good luck!

I'm not sure how far apart you have planted them, but i would leave them where they are and take out the canes. I know someone on our site who has done the exact same thing in moving their bean plants, and they haven't done very well.

I've never had any problems moving them when they're that size.

I'd leave them where they are and if you need the canes take them out but if not leave them too.

If they've only been in the ground for 6 days, and are about 8" tall they'll move easily, get your new planting holes ready, dig em up and put them straight in your new holes and water well.

I agree they can be moved but just make sure you try to take as much soil with them as you can to avoid damaging the root system as much as possible. Also water well in their new position.
Best done after the heat of the day has past.

I will need to move them, as I cannot take out the canes. This is because the canes are in an A shape, and on the other side of the structure is runner beans.
