That beetle looks like the click beetle thats in the link that daileg posted.

It's certainly not a red lily beetle.  They are much brighter red and have spindly legs and antennae.

Cockchafer or May bug.  Funnily enough I saw one today too.  And yes, he's one of the bad guys.
