I just read that you can put chunks of rhubarb under you cabbages to stop root fly... anyone tried this? And does it work. How much do you need?

Never tried it myself, but when seen it done a stem covers a row, a bit the size of your last finger joint.  :-\

I heard of planting a inch cube in the planting hole for cabbage etc stops club root is that the same thing I wonder.

Apparently it's the oxylic acid in rhubarb that deters cabbage root fly... so better to use the leaves as they have a much higher concentration of it than the stems.

Rhubarb has lots of uses on the plot, as well as club root it deters rodents from your compost bin, the leaves also make a great mulch for all brassicas.
